On the spot.

I thought I'm not going to make it to the China 4A Award Ceremony due to a last minute presentation. But luckily I managed to reach the venue on time after 2 hours traffic jam. It is a bronze for my print ad for GreenPeace, and I wanna share this glory with my partner Albion and my ECD who can't make it to the show. I still remember last March, when Albion and I were cracking this idea (on the train from airport to town to be exact) when we were working on a TVC's post production job in HongKong. And then I briefed the retoucher in Beijing right after it's been approved. The retoucher then created this print ad in just less than one day, just on time for award submission deadline! Crazy. I believe this will be my last award for 2009, so I'll cherish and remember this moment.

My apology to you guys. No I haven't been lazy to blog, just lately I've been falling into the darkest valley and get lost. Can't find the way out, can't see lights. Seriously need a break from this planet of apes. Two more months to go, so please help me to stay alive. Surprisingly nice car.

I like to plan. And I've been planning for all the details that I can possibly think of for my new life. For instant, I might need to buy a car if I wanted to live in my lovely country. Many choices many brands(surely Broton is not included), but if within the budget, well, only a few I can afford actually. But this car did grab my attention. The Kia Forte sedan, just been officially launched yesterday. Looks hot, very very hot. Rather very gorgeous I must say. And the interior, also very styling. Engine? 1.6cc comes with DOHC CVVT engine, max power 124/6200rpm, torque 156Nm @ 4200rpm or 2.0cc comes with DOHC CVVT engine, max power 156/6200rpm, torque 194Nm @ 4300rpm, very promising I should say. What else? CD Player, Airbag driver, Airbag passenger, ABS Brakes, Central lock, Adjustable steering, Electro-Chromic Mirror, Push Start Button!!!! USB ipod, ABS/EBD, Auto Air-Conditioning, 17" Alloy Wheel, 6 CD Changer, UV Cut Windshield!!!!! Price? It is between RM75,000 to RM90,000!!! Wah lao, saliva dripping. Ok, must test drive it when I'm back.

Never thought that a Korea car can be so cool so powerful, yet so affortable. Good job Kia. I can imagine this car will be very competitive to Vios and City, which is a good thing becasue I don't like to own something that everybody has (haha, sounds like I'm going to buy one). But can Forte lift up the expectation? Only time can tell. Will be waiting for the first crab eater's feedback.

The nature is calling.

01. When retrenchment happened secretly, it's time.

02. When the creatives act like the account director, the account director acts like account executive, the account executive became senior strategy planner, it's time.

03. When more staff disappeared quietly, it's time.

04. When the man thinks the client's layouts look ordinary, the cropping can be tighter, the colours needed to be more desaturated like 8.5 % and the logo still looks too big and can be reduced like 7.6 % at 4 a.m in the morning, it's time.

05. When the second man still comes to work at 11.30 a.m everyday, smokes 2 packs per day in the office and do absolutely nothing to the operation, it's time.

06. When there's no budget, no clients and no time but still want to win the Cannes gold lion next year, it's time.

07. When the man still thinks the client's layouts looks ordinary, the cropping can be looser, the colours needed to be more desaturated like 4.5 % and the logo still can be reduced like 6.6 % at 6 a.m in the morning, and you still don't know when he can be satisfied, it's time.

08. When there's only 4.5 survivors left in the creative department (minus the second man) but there's like twenty jobs needed to be done tomorrow, it's time.

09. When he finally happy but told you the works still can be improved next time at 8 a.m in the morning, it's time.

10. When money isn't everything anymore but life is, it's time.

 11. Lastly, when you don't wanna be alone anymore, it's time.

Because of one man, the whole Chang An Avenue has been shut down for more than two hour at the rush hour, forcing thousands of people late for work (including me); Because of one man, the Forbidden City has been shut down for one whole day, to let that man lingers around for an hour. And I heard today that man is going to visit the BaDaLing Great Walls. I hereby sending my best regards to those travellers who have been planed to go there today. Sorry, the whole great walls will be closed for sure, all because of one man. 

So thank you Mr. Obama, for making our day. You da man.

 

 

What to wear?

While I have confirmed this is the end of the road for me, preparing myself to drown in the sea of despair on this hopelessly half sinking boat, suddenly I was being informed to attend the China 4A awards ceremony next month in Beijing as my print campaign for GreenPeace has been a bronze winner. Supply!!!! True, life is a roller coaster ride, so I really needed this piece of good news to cheer myself up. Low tide, but never say die. Free dinner some more, awesome.

 

One of the print ad in this campaign also just been featured in the latest Japan creative magazine called 'Brain'. Good taste, Nippon!

White Tuesday.

It snowed again last night. Don't feel romantic anymore to be honest. It is now freaking cold and have to dress like a Michelin man everytime when you wanna go out. The roads are all wet or covered by the dirty ice, and traffic congestion is unavoidable. But I do wish it will snows when mom, sis and bro come visit me next month during Chritsmas time. It would be super awesome for those who can only see frost in the fridge. Fingers crossing.

 

 

 

Meanwhile, today is Sesame Street's 40th annivesary. Suddently the jingle of it's theme song stuck in my head. This was the king of cartoons back at my era. For once I do wish I have never grown up.

Too bad, I did.

The unexpected visitor.

It is not like I haven't seen snow before, but this one is truly a surprise. This unusually early snow blanketed the capital from Sunday morning and it was the earliest to hit the capital in 20 years! My instinct tells me that this is going to be the best chance for photo shooting. So, without any delay, packed all my gears, dressed myself like a Michelin Man, I'm heading to my all time favorite monument in Beijing - the Forbidden City. Shooting photos in the temperatures as low as minus 3 Celsius wasn't an easy task, but I'm very satisfied with my photography works this time. Follow me!

A disappointing Friday. Anywhere, wishing everyone has a great weekend ahead. Go do what you wanna do. Don't wait.

The only 12 1/2 writing rules you'll ever need.

I'm an art direcrtor, and basically art director hardly write anything. But I've been writing ever since I started his page. Despite I know I am a terrible 'writer', I'm learning. Today I saw an anonymous genius' thoughs about writing rules, and I am inspired. So I would like to share it with all of you:

01. If you write everyday, you get better at writing everyday.

02. If it is boring to you, it is boring to your reader.

03. Get a writing routine, and stick with it.

04. Poetry does NOT have to rhyme. Poetry does NOT have to be rhyme.

05. Resist stereotypes, in real life and in your writing.

06. Writers read. Writers read a lot. Writers read all the time.

07. Make lists of your favorite words and books and places and things.

08. There does not always have to be moral to the story.

09. Always bring your notebook. Always bring a spare pen.

10. Go for a walks. Dance. Pull weeds. Do the dishes. Write about it.

11. Don't settle on just one style. Try something new.

12. Learn to tell both sides of the story.
